Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
Sossusvlei and Deadvlei are two of Namibia’s most iconic white clay pans, located within the coastal Namib Desert. Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by massive red sand dunes, occasionally filling with water during rare rainy seasons. Nearby, Deadvlei is famous for its dark, dead camel thorn trees that have been scorched by the sun and preserved for over 900 years. Together, these sites form a stark, high-contrast landscape shaped by extreme arid conditions and shifting sands.
