New - Grizzly Bears

It’s been a “bucket list” ambition of mine for years to see grizzly bears fishing for salmon in North America. I recently had to opportunity to tick this one off as we spent three weeks touring from Vancouver up to Bella Coola and over to Vancouver Island in western Canada. It’s fair to say that things were not as I expected. Firstly, the bears are difficult to find and spot - we only saw four in our five day stint in the area; some people didn’t see a single bear. Secondly, the Canadian bears don’t seem to stand in river catching leaping salmon, rather they prefer salvaging already dead fish - much easier to catch I guess. That said, when they did make an appearance it was very special; here’s a few photos of what went on. I would note that the light was very dim when we had these encounters, not helped by blanket smoke from forest wildfires blocking the sun, so they’re not really up to the standard I would aspire to, but they are what they are.
